This January 1988 dummy shows the original 44-page layout for the South Korea article scheduled for the August 1988 issue of National Geographic Magazine. The article with photographs by Nathan Benn and text by Boyd Gibbons was tentatively titled “Korea: A Legacy of Conflict.” The editors of National Geographic, under direction of Editor Wilbur Garrett, produced this layout and dummy that emphasized the volatile political changes of 1987. The final article, re-titled “The South Koreans,” purged most of the photographs related to politics and violence.
