Photograph at twilight of the ancient monument Great South Gate aka Namdaemun aka Sungnyemun aka Southern Gate with traffic swirls in central downtown Seoul, South Korea. Considered Korea’s National Treasure No. 1, the 600 year old historic landmark building was destroyed by an arsonist set fire on February 12, 2008. The remnant of the main gate to the ancient walled city, Namdaemun was made of wood and stone with pagoda-shaped tiled roof. Completed in 1398 it was the oldest wooden structure in Seoul and a major tourist attraction. The gate is surrounded by an urban commercial district and the streaked headlights of automobile traffic trace around the monument in a time exposure.
