Picture 1 of 14

Photograph of infantry soldiers patrolling along a barbed wire fence on the border of the DMZ or demilitarized zone between South Korea and North Korea. The soldiers are dressed in winter military parkas for the cold mountain frontier boundary and they carry rifles. The fence is 2 kilometers from the Military Demarcation Line between North Korea and the Republic of Korea or ROK. This section of the fence is in the mountains of the Eastern Frontline near the Eastern Sea. The Military Demarcation Line and the DMZ were established at ceasefire to the Korean War. The line is roughly along the 38th parallel and also called Hyujeonseon, or "ceasefire line." Photograph by Nathan Benn taken February 27, 1987. i
